Roads update: crew hauls 3,331 yards of sand amid chloride shortage; beaver clog to be cleared

Fairfield’s road crew has hauled 3,331 yards of sand so far this season, with 3,000 yards sourced from Howrigan and the remainder from Wrights, Roads Foreman Maurice (Mo) Jettie told the Selectboard. Maurice said that a shortage of chloride supplies has allowed the crew time now to haul sand, and he asked the board how he should proceed; the Selectboard told him to use his judgment based on crew availability and time.
The board also directed maintenance on a clogged dam at the pond after Selectboard member Ron Bocash reported beaver obstructions. Maurice said Jake will go down with a backhoe to remove the clog. In other road-related business Maurice noted that Pete’s Equipment intends to submit a bid for a mowing tractor; the board will wait for three bids before awarding the work. Cathy Ainsworth reported positive public comments about the road crew’s recent use of chloride on local roads.
