Superintendent Jerrad Jeske told the Liberty School District Board on Oct. 28 that enrollment "continues to stay steady 565, not including TK," and highlighted several community and operational updates.
Jeske noted community involvement: Family Maple Bar Day served a record 850 maple bars, and the K-8 Sport-A-Thon and LCEF auction were cited as successful community fundraising efforts. The Cheney Free Press reached out to recognize the district's consistent achievement on state testing in math, English, and science, which Jeske said reflects staff work with students.
Maintenance updates reported included completion of a well refurbishment and installation of a variable speed controller (which resolved recurring low-water alarms), waterproof sealant added to the elementary/junior-high flat roof with no leaks reported so far, parking blocks secured at the high school, and warranty roof shingle replacements conducted by Icon Roofing. Jeske also thanked Laurie Roecks for returning to drive the bus.
On transportation, Jeske said the electric bus grant the district qualified for will not cover all costs including charging equipment and that staff will pursue additional grants; the bus ordered in July remains unbuilt with a scheduled mid-November build date.
