The Cairo Town Board on Aug. 4, 2025 authorized the Supervisor to sign a New York Municipal Insurance Reciprocal (NYMIR) renewal proposal for a one-year term beginning Aug. 4, 2025, not to exceed $135,064.39 (Resolution No. 2025-149).
Representatives from Marshall & Sterling attended the meeting to explain insurance cost increases. Minutes record "about a $10,000 increase due to increasing vehicle and building insurances" and that the renewal must be completed within 30 days to avoid a lapse in coverage.
The motion to accept and sign the NYMIR proposal was offered by Supervisor Watts and seconded by Council Member Cords and carried with all present members voting aye; Council Member Flaherty was absent. The renewal amount and the 30-day renewal window were recorded in the resolution.
