Commission forwards VCRC town-plan work plan and grant application to select board

The Stamford Planning Commission voted to recommend the VCRC work plan and municipal grant application to the select board, advancing the town-plan update process.

Speaker 3 (Stephanie Stumpson) moved that the commission "recommend the VCRC's work plan" to the select board "as proposed," saying the consultant had trimmed community outreach and reduced the budget by a few thousand dollars. Speaker 2 seconded the motion and the commission voted in favor. Chair (speaker 1) said Cali will present to the select board on Thursday and the commission will await that decision.

Members discussed the budget and match requirement. Chair (speaker 1) recited earlier figures, saying the original application had a "panel match of 2940" and that the commission believes the grant request figure would be approximately what was recorded in the submitted application. Speaker 3 and others noted the commission can work alongside the consultant and reject recommendations that do not fit local priorities: "They can propose, hey. This, and we can be like, well, we don't like that," Chair (speaker 1) said, stressing the commission’s final authority.

The commission also discussed meeting cadence needed to support plan work regardless of grant award timing; members agreed to begin priority meetings in advance and to reconvene after the select-board decision, expected in December.
