The Select Board reviewed an updated recycling schedule and pricing that will go into effect Nov. 1. Staff emphasized that electronic waste (monitors, televisions and some computer equipment) is not accepted at the town’s facility; when electronics are received the town sometimes pays disposal fees, and the meeting included a reference to an approximately $800 bill related to electronics handling.
Staff explained the punch-card system and senior rates (for example, a senior punch-card option cited at $40) and asked the board to review prices for the next meeting. The Chair asked residents to bring electronic waste to regional facilities in Bennington, Reedsboro or Searsburg to avoid town disposal charges. A board member said some users have historically taken items to nearby towns when those facilities were open, and the board discussed whether the town could accept electronics if secure indoor storage were available.
“Please bring those to a place that will accept them and otherwise, we're paying for them,” the Chair said in warning to residents who have left electronics at the recycling area. The board asked staff to compare pricing and return with recommendations at the next meeting.
