Kingsbury County approves skidsteer purchase and hires heavy equipment operator

The Kingsbury County Board of County Commissioners on Feb. 3 approved a series of highway department purchases and staffing actions aimed at maintaining winter operations and upcoming projects. Highway Superintendent Dave Sorenson asked the board to offer a Heavy Equipment Operator position at Grade Level 20, Step A, paying $23.04 per hour; the board approved the hire (motion by Walls; second by Spilde).
Sorenson also presented equipment requests: the board approved buying a used 2024 Model 262D3 skidsteer with about 300 hours from Butler Machinery for $60,250 outright and authorized purchase of a wire-feed welder (Sorenson presented a $3,700 quote; board approved up to $5,000). The board approved Sorenson's travel to the Asphalt Conference in Mitchell on Feb. 11–12, 2026. These approvals were recorded as unanimous motions with all present voting aye.
