Selectboard authorizes design review for town sign; will coordinate with school

Members discussed concerns raised by the school board about mounting and maintenance and emphasized coordination with the principal and school board before installation.
A motion to "move forward with the sign and to install it" was made, seconded and accepted during the meeting. The board agreed to pay approximately 50% of the design fee as a deposit so the designer can prepare proofs, which will be returned to the selectboard for final sign-off before installation. One member emphasized that the designer is "hiring a professional" and the board would check the design for sizing, spelling and compliance before approval.
The board also directed the volunteer lead to coordinate tree trimming and minor landscaping needed for sight lines and to work evenings or off-hours to minimize disruption to school activities. Installation timing will be coordinated with the school principal.
