Johnson reported Smarter Balanced testing has started for several grades and said staff are exploring ways to motivate students during testing.
Johnson also said the elementary staff reviewed language‑arts curricula that lean toward Open Court because of its alignment with the science of reading. He noted the district will consider additional test‑preparation options for ACT cohorts and reported a $14,000 Bankwest grant the district received to support programs such as choir robes. Johnson and other staff discussed ongoing hiring activity, robotics demonstrations and use of remaining bond funds, which staff said total just under $2,100,000 in the account and may be moved to escrow in May.
