Board approves use of construction-manager-at-risk procurement to get cost estimates

The Colman-Egan School District 50-5 board voted to authorize use of a construction-manager-at-risk (CMAR) procurement for the proposed athletic project, explaining the method will help secure more accurate cost estimates and allow greater participation by local contractors. Superintendent Scott Hammer said the CMAR approach "gives local contractors the greatest ability to take part in the project" and allows more flexible pricing and package bids.
Board members approved a resolution authorizing CMAR and agreed to re-advertise the request-for-qualifications (RFQ). Submittals were noted as due in early January; the board named two board members and the superintendent to review proposals and make a recommendation before the next meeting. The board recorded the motion as carried by voice vote.
