Police Chief Mike Hepner reported at the May 20 meeting that on April 14, 2026, Officer Cody Melton and Bingen Fire Department personnel responded to an unconscious adult with abnormal breathing near State Route 141. Responders performed CPR, administered Narcan and deployed an AED until Klickitat County EMS arrived; the patient was transported to the hospital and survived.
Chief Hepner said Officer Melton’s actions helped preserve a life and the officer was recognized with a Life Saving Award. The council acknowledged the response and thanked public safety personnel for their service.
