The superintendent also noted that the proposal shows districts receiving varying shares of the land area, including Arlington (25%), Howard (21%), Madison (17.7%), Lake Preston (12.5%) and Sioux Valley (11.8%).
A trustee raised a procedural and fiscal point about existing bond obligations: "Our current bond, if those parcels are moved into the Colman-Egan School District, that bond does not follow it. Those new parcels would be exempt from that bond," the trustee said. Board discussion emphasized that state statute controls how maps are drawn and that landowner requests to be reassigned do not guarantee placement under the final map.
The superintendent explained that ORR intends to spend down some account balances and distribute or reassign vehicles and buses among districts; the superintendent said ORR planned to allocate minibuses and other vehicles to surrounding districts by sealed bid or direct assignment depending on funding sources. Trustees voted to approve the district's oral resolution to receive the dissolution materials and move forward with the prescribed processes, while noting further interactions with landowners and state officials may follow.
