Consultants say Lake County has two earmarks and WRDA language could add $10M authorization

Hassan Sarsour of Paragon Government Relations told the board the congressional calendar is compressed ahead of midterms and briefed two Lake County-specific federal items: ‘‘There’s a nearly $750,000 earmark, requested by Congressman Thompson’’ for water and wastewater infrastructure related to a recent sewage spill, and ‘‘another $500,000 earmark’’ for workforce housing and reentry services.
Sarsour also flagged the House draft of the Water Resources Development Act, which would increase authorized funding for locally owned Lake County water and wastewater projects from $20 million to $30 million, and said additional Army Corps language might be needed to advance Middle Creek restoration because estimated costs have risen since the initial authorization.
Supervisors asked about timing and whether earmarks would stick if a final budget is delayed; Paragon said earmarks are more likely to hold if a budget is completed but uncertainty remains given the compressed schedule.
