Vice Chair reports NACo policy work and FEMA engagement

"We also wrapped up the, disaster task force, which has been 2 years of work," the vice chair said, noting that acting FEMA administrator Bob Fenton joined the task force discussion and met privately with county representatives.
The vice chair said one resolution they worked on supports funding for water infrastructure used in fire suppression. She explained that resolutions adopted by NACo and its committees are sent to Congress for consideration and that accompanying federal legislation is now moving through committees. That, she said, will affect how counties — particularly rural counties — prepare for and respond to disasters.
The vice chair also reported follow-up meetings with local partners including Kelseyville Fire, and described ongoing attention to how federal recommendations and pending legislation could change county responsibilities and funding streams. The vice chair framed the outcomes as preparatory: the county will continue monitoring federal guidance and coordinate with regional agencies as details emerge.
