Supervisors demand contract amendments after awarding funds to Kanokitai, Redwood projects

"I would like to see an amendment that... if they sell their [asset] we did not just buy an asset that disappears," a committee member (speaker S5) said, urging staff to pursue contract amendments within 30 days for vendors such as Kanokitai and Redwood. The speaker said they had repeatedly requested follow-up on the expenditure plan and expressed frustration that the board had not previously approved a formal plan.
Kyle Bill, executive director of Kanokitai Native Wellness (self-identified during public comment), told the board his organization is willing to discuss amendments and invited supervisors to visit their Lakeport office. Staff confirmed they are already working with county counsel to make contract language more protective of county interests; supervisors asked that work continue and be reported back to the board.
