The board approved two policy- and handbook-related items intended to clarify student supports and align procedures across grade levels.
On the IEP/504 guiding principle for fine arts and athletics, a presenter said the addition is not new law but is meant to provide clarity for parents, coaches and advisers and ensure students—s accommodations and services are connected to extracurricular activities. A motion to adopt the addition passed by roll call vote 5-0.
The board also approved the Freshman Academy handbook after staff reviewed edits to align the freshman handbook with the district—s 10-12 student handbook and PBIS practices. Administrators said the edits were intended to increase clarity as new coaches and staff join programs. The motion to approve the handbook carried 5-0 by roll call.
