Commissioner Stevens named NACo Transportation Committee chair; urges federal reauthorization

Commissioner Stevens told the board he served on a NACo panel in late July and was appointed chair of NACo's Transportation Committee. He said the committee will advocate for a surface transportation reauthorization bill that funds roads, highways and transit and stressed that passing legislation would help counties secure funds for bridges, rural roads and other transportation priorities.

Stevens also described local work on road and bridge funding, including exploring alternative repair methods for rural roads and advocating for policies to better allocate state and federal transportation dollars to counties with high usage or limited local tax bases. "I was appointed as chair of the National Association of Counties, Transportation Committee and will be just working to get the surface reauthorization legislation passed," Stevens said.
