Council approves $110,000 for park cameras and $800,000 for Middleton Trail

At a public hearing opened and closed without speakers, staff presented resolution 2026‑004 seeking two budget amendments: $110,000 from the general capital project fund balance for security cameras at Town Square and Vernon Worthen Park, and $800,000 reallocated from savings and other trail project funds to complete the Middleton Trail in a single phase.

Jared, the presenting staff member, said the two park sites were identified as high‑priority following an evaluation of security needs across city parks, trails and facilities. "The funding is available in the general capital project fund balance for this project, and staff request to amend the budget in the amount of $110,000 to add security cameras at these locations," he said. On the Middleton Trail, Jared reported that bids came in significantly lower than estimates, allowing staff to recommend proceeding with both phases and reallocating savings from the Canyon Softball Complex and the Sieg Miller Canal Trail project.

Councilmembers discussed the cameras' intent to deter vandalism — one member stressed, "we're not here to spy on anybody" — and asked technical questions about locations and phasing; no public testimony was received during the hearing. The council unanimously approved the resolution by roll call.
