Superintendent: TK funding, counselor visits and potential grants noted for 2026

Superintendent Becky Bell briefed the Shaw Island School District board on Dec. 16 about several operational items affecting the next school year. She said transitional kindergarten (TK) funding will be available next year because students were enrolled in 2023-24; she also noted a district counselor has begun visiting and will be at the school every other Wednesday.
Bell told the board there may be local United Way grant funds available and that a local cultural access grant funded through local tax dollars should be available next school year, though an outside agency would need to sponsor any out-of-county trips. She also reported that the Special Education FTE was 0.001 as of Nov. 1, 2025, and that her superintendent endorsement is active through 2031.
