At a special meeting on Oct. 1, 2025, the Shaw Island School District Board of Directors opened a single formal bid for its Teacher Housing project. Vice Chair Shirley Lange opened and read the bid submitted by Swal'lech Construction and the results were recorded by district staff.
The district’s bid receipt form shows Swal'lech Construction submitted its package in person at 2:45 PM on Oct. 1, 2025, ahead of the 2:59 PM deadline. Recorded line items include a Base Bid of $872,612.08; Alternate #1 (residential prevailing wage, 2‑bedroom) at $851,483.78; Alternate #2 (3‑bedroom, commercial prevailing wage) at $1,042,133.79; Alternate #3 (3‑bedroom, residential prevailing wage) at $992,188.21; and Alternate #4 (breezeway only) at $53,025.75. The bid form notes commercial/residential prevailing wage designations for each alternate.
"The bid was read and recorded," the meeting minutes state. Board members present for the opening included Directors Shirley Lange, Jon Shannon and Shannon Klohr; Superintendent Dr. Becky Bell and Office Administrator Deanna Shannon were listed as administrative attendees, and project representatives from Swal'lech Construction and their project manager joined in person and via Zoom.
The minutes note the board will make a bid award decision within 45 days. No award was made at the Oct. 1 meeting and no discussion of evaluating criteria or scoring was recorded in the minutes.
