During FY2027 budget discussions, supervisors expressed interest in encouraging residential development. County Attorney George Lyle drafted an ordinance that waives certain permit fees for renovations or alterations to existing residential structures when the total cost of the project equals or exceeds $100,000. The ordinance states: "All permit fees of 6-202 A.1 are hereby waived...when the total cost of the proposed renovation or alterations equal or exceed $100,000. The waiver ordinance shall take effect July 1, 2026, and expire July 1, 2028." The Board approved the ordinance unanimously after the required public hearing.
Staff did not present an immediate fiscal impact estimate at the meeting; supervisors said the fee waiver is intended to encourage capital investment in existing residential stock. The Board recorded no opposition to the temporary waiver.
