Patrick Rogers, president of All Vets, presented the group's request that the Board adopt a resolution to the Commonwealth Transportation Board to recognize Kings Mountain Road as “Henry County Veterans Highway.” Rogers cited U.S. Census figures in the request, saying Henry County is home to “3,813 veterans representing 7.7% of the population of Henry County.” County staff noted that Code of Virginia Section 33.2-213 authorizes the CTB to name highways and that localities must bear the cost of signage if the CTB approves.
The Board voted unanimously to support forwarding a resolution to the CTB. Staff will draft the resolution for the Board's adoption and, if CTB approval follows, the county will be responsible for producing and maintaining the sign.
