Henry County Sheriff secures JAG, SRO and bulletproof-vest grants for FY2027

County Administrator Dale Wagoner presented three grants the Sheriff requested the Board appropriate: a $24,166 Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) for Criminal Investigations equipment, a $45,000 School Resource Officer (SRO) grant to continue an SRO at the Career Academy, and an $18,574 Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP) grant from the U.S. Department of Justice. Wagoner said the grants “require local matches, which the Sheriff will cover through the department’s FY 2027 budget,” and that the BVP award requires a 50% local match.
The Board approved the appropriations unanimously. The Sheriff indicated the JAG funds are intended "to purchase equipment to improve the capabilities of the Criminal Investigation Division" and that the BVP funds will help "replace ballistic vests that have reached the end of their five-year warranty period." The Board recorded no dissent on the actions.
