Superintendent Becky Bell informed the board that the state legislature approved a reduction to TK funding of approximately 25% to 33%, and that the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) was working on how the reduced funds would be distributed. Bell said the District could also assess students for early entrance into kindergarten as part of planning.
Bell also reported a family with two children visited who may move to Shaw Island and would add a third-grader and a kindergartner next school year. She said she is developing staffing models and considering possible salary increases and intends to present those proposals at the board’s next meeting.
