Commission honors county retirees and welcomes Drug Education Council Youth Advisory

Commissioners recognized three county retirees with nearly 76 years of combined service and welcomed the Mobile City‑County Youth Council class of 2026–27 introduced by Virginia Guy of the Drug Education Council.
The commission opened by recognizing three long‑serving county employees and inviting the Drug Education Council’s youth advisory class for an introduction. Commissioners thanked Sergeant Donald Gomian (Mobile County Sheriff's Office) for 19 years and six months of service; Corporal Russell Benefield for 37 years; and Michael J. McClain of Mobile County Parks for 19 years and five months. "You've been such an asset to the county and to the sheriff's office," a commissioner said.
Virginia Guy introduced the Drug Education Council’s 18‑member youth council and invited members to give their names, schools and the elected officials they represent; students noted school affiliations and district representation. Commissioners commended the youth for volunteering to represent their schools and communities.
