Police to host regional active shooter training; fire department seeks federal grant

Police Chief Justin Lovvorn told the Council the department has seen a seasonal increase in traffic activity and calls for service and that officers will provide security for the city's July 4 Celebrate America program. He said the Greenville Police Department will host a regional Active Shooter Response Training for area law enforcement at LBW College in July.
Fire Chief Doug Belletete reported that the department "successfully submitted its Assistance to Firefighters Grant application prior to the deadline" and that grant award announcements are expected by the end of September 2026. Belletete also said the department is providing CPR, first aid and fire extinguisher training for all City employees, with completion anticipated by the end of August.
