The Skamania School District Board voted Dec. 18 to pursue purchase of bus #10 from White Salmon School District as a backup vehicle for the district’s transportation fleet. Superintendent Milt Dennison presented repair and replacement options after reporting that repair of bus #3 would cost about $4,700 with no guarantee of resolving underlying mechanical issues. Donald Collins moved to begin the purchase process for bus #10 contingent on a Washington State Patrol inspection; Rowdy LaFevers seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Board members were told bus #10 had been driven throughout the prior year by a Skamania driver without reported mechanical issues. The board framed the purchase as a contingency plan while the district continues to use its electric school bus for morning and afternoon runs. The motion requires a passing WSP inspection and any further administrative approvals before a final transfer is completed.
