Weston Selectboard to vote on updated Town Plan after WRC-led revision

The Weston Selectboard reviewed an updated Town Plan on April 8, with Matt Bachler of the West River Collaborative (WRC) joining by Zoom to explain the revisions and next steps. Mr. Bachler told the board the draft would be edited for flow, consistency and grammar, that it is a revision of the 2016 Town Plan rather than a new plan, and that it will be renewed again in eight years. He also said the Town Plan serves as an advisory document and is not legally binding.
Selectboard members asked how much of the draft was written by the Planning Commission versus required by state guidance. Denis Benson and Linda Saarnijoki pressed for clarification; Mr. Bachler said some updates reflect changes from the State but that the 14 statewide planning goals have remained standard for many years. He explained the procedure for future changes: proposed edits would be brought to a public meeting and would require Selectboard approval before adoption. After discussion the Selectboard thanked the Planning Commission and Mr. Bachler; the board recorded that it will vote to adopt the Town Plan at its next Selectboard meeting.
