Weybridge commission seeks $20,000 planning grant to restart town plan revision

The Weybridge Planning Commission on Nov. 11 reviewed the town’s municipal planning grant application and sketched a timetable for revising the Town Plan if the grant is awarded. The Selectboard has approved submitting a $20,000 Municipal Planning Grant and including a $2,000 FY2027 local match, the 10% required contribution, in the town budget.

Jeff Olson, who called the meeting to order, said the commission would invite Katie Raycroft-Meyer of the Addison County Regional Planning Commission to the Jan. 2026 meeting to start the revision process if the grant is successful. Commissioners plan to form a Town Plan Revision Committee that will likely meet monthly and assign different sections of the current Town Plan to committee members for in-depth review and homework between meetings.

Commissioners discussed aligning the Zoning Regulations with the revised Town Plan and possibly combining the Zoning and Subdivision Regulations into a single document to reduce inconsistencies. The commission also noted outreach lessons from the last revision and plans to use Front Porch Forum to advertise meetings and solicit public input. Roxanne Vought, Executive Director of Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility, offered to act as a community liaison during the revision to improve turnout and communication.

The next procedural step is conditional on the grant award: if funded, the commission will convene the revision committee and schedule public engagement events beginning in January 2026.
