The Taylor City Council approved purchase of a leaf and debris truck with a low bid (Emteksource) for an amount not to exceed $316,634 funded through ARPA funds. City staff said the vehicle will replace aging sweepers, double as a chipper truck for the tree crews and dramatically reduce the number of dump trips to the compost site because it can hold roughly five times the volume of a single dump truck.
A public works representative explained the economics: sweepers typically cost about $230,000 each and require multiple-person operations and dump-truck support, while the proposed leaf system is a one-person operation used year-round, which the department expects will reduce operational costs. Mayor Wooley clarified the purchase does not include a curbside vacuum system some residents expected. The council approved the motion after discussion.
