Residents press council on rats, trash pickup and missing sidewalks; DPW and ordinance staff pledge follow-up

A string of public comments highlighted neighborhood maintenance concerns in several parts of Taylor. One resident described a neighbor’s salvage-yard behavior that the commenter said had produced rodents and blighted conditions; ordinance staff and the mayor said they would review pictures and follow up. Another resident described sidewalks that are overgrown or missing near Ecourse and Ziegler, noting personal injuries and asking the city to contact the lot owner to address the broken or missing pedestrian route. Residents also raised concerns about trash pickup policies, noting that standard service provides one can and that residents can place additional bags out for collection; staff offered to follow up on individual addresses.

Council members noted other neighborhood news: park mulch and equipment updates, a local fundraiser for the veterans museum and an animal-shelter vendor event. Recreation commissioner nominees and a rec-commission applicant also spoke about the difficulty of filling vacancies if council votes split; one rec-commission applicant urged council to “just decide” rather than prolong vacancies. DPW and ordinance staff told residents to call in complaints to trigger enforcement visits and to meet with ordinance officers after the meeting for updates.
