At its July 28 meeting the Henry County Board of Supervisors approved multiple appropriations and contract awards: a $75,000 planning grant from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development for a preliminary engineering report on the Bassett Community Center; $89,066 awarded to Angel Armour LLC for ballistic vests funded from Commonwealth and sheriff asset-forfeiture funds; and a $390,280 purchase order to Hayden Ford for replacement sheriff’s office vehicles. Staff noted funding for many of these items is included in the fiscal-year 2027 budget.
On the budget, county staff recommended rescinding a previously adopted 2% salary increase effective July 1 and instead approving a 3.5% raise for all full‑time county employees effective Aug. 1 to match the Commonwealth’s salary changes; the board approved the change and set a public hearing for August 25 to amend the FY2026–27 budget. All motions reported during the meeting were approved by the board by recorded voice votes of 5 affirmative, 1 absent (Supervisor Pruitt).
