Harvey County appoints four to Food & Farm Council as it marks 10 years

The Board of Harvey County Commissioners approved four appointments to the Harvey County Food & Farm Council on Dec. 16, advancing the panel that works on local‑food access and producer support.
Health Department Director Lynnette Redington presented the recommendations: Bonnie Brewer will fill the Extension representative slot (term through Dec. 2028); Melissa Butts will continue representing community and faith‑based organizations; Erica Stoltzfus will continue as a healthcare‑professional representative; and Jeff Glimpse will serve as a community‑at‑large member. Becky Reimer moved to appoint the four nominees and the commission approved the slate unanimously.
Lynnette and council members also provided an overview of 10 years of the council’s work, saying its mission is “to improve the accessibility, education, and economy of locally produced foods.” Commissioners thanked the council and suggested exploring commercial‑kitchen expansion in churches to support local processing and distribution.
