Conservation Commission notifies Selectmen of potential easement donation, forestry plan

The Sandwich Conservation Commission on July 27 updated the Selectmen on two items: a potential donation of a conservation easement and a preliminary forestry management plan.
Nancy Walser told the Board the commission is in conversation with a property owner interested in donating a conservation easement that would be contiguous with existing easement lots; if the town accepts the donation, it should expect legal fees and surveying expenses. Walser also presented a draft forestry management plan for conservation property identified as Map 233 Lot 3; the plan is intended to address forest health and maintenance needs, including concerns about an existing dam on the property. Both Walser and the Board expressed support in concept and said further information will be shared with the public as discussions with the landowner continue.
No final acceptance or commitment of municipal funds was decided; the Board asked for additional information as the Commission refines the donor’s proposal and the preliminary forestry plan.
