Council clears consent agenda: roofing contracts, election grant, zoning first readings and other routine approvals

Taylor City Council adopted a multi-item consent agenda covering procurement, grants and zoning matters at the Oct. 15 meeting. Major items passed included a low-bid award to Let's Roofing, Inc. to replace roofs at three city facilities for $670,050 plus a 3% contingency — an amount not to exceed $690,152 funded through capital outlay — and acceptance of a 2024 supplemental Help America Vote Act (HAVA) grant to support election security and voting equipment.
Council also approved the first reading of a rezoning case (24-25Z) for parcels on Telegraph where a Sonic restaurant is proposed, and moved forward a zoning text amendment (24-28 ZTA) raising the allowed commercial vehicle weight in residential areas to 10,000 pounds to accommodate common work vans and pickups while excluding large semis. Planning staff told the council the change is intended to avoid penalizing small contractors who store work vans at home while preserving limits on large trucks in neighborhoods. Other consent agenda items included a holiday-decorations contract for $48,284 and a blanket purchase agreement for IT maintenance.
