Council recognizes Taylor Historical Society cemetery committee for restoration work

Taylor City Council honored the Taylor Historical Society's cemetery committee for uncovering and documenting dozens of graves and headstones and for ongoing restoration and education efforts.
The Taylor Historical Commission and Historical Society were recognized for their volunteer cemetery restoration work, which the society detailed at the Oct. 15 meeting. The society reported locating 14 footstones, 14 headstones with braces, 6 headstones only, 5 bases only and 20 previously unmarked graves as of October 2024; they said they maintain a repair spreadsheet listing 170 graves/sites with 72 completed.
"We have held fundraisers to support the various projects... On their cleaning and repair spreadsheet, they currently have 170 grama sites listed with 35 sites requiring simple repair, 63 requiring comprehensive repair, and 72 completed," the society's president said. Council members praised the committee's volunteer work and encouraged residents to get involved; the motion to recognize the committee passed on a voice vote.
