Council lets Aerotropolis establish Industrial Development District for proposed CMAC facility; abatement details to follow

After an extended presentation and questioning session, Taylor City Council voted to allow the Detroit Region Aerotropolis Development Corporation (Aerotropolis) to proceed with establishing an Industrial Development District (IDD) for a 44‑acre parcel on Northline Road tied to a proposed CMAC/Christie Land North LLC project. The IDD is the first step under Michigan PA 198; if the council later approves an Industrial Facilities Exemption Certificate, that certificate would define any real and personal property tax abatement.

Chris, a Detroit Region Aerotropolis representative, told the council the project envisions a roughly 377,000‑square‑foot building with an expected 300–500 jobs and capital investment in the range of $20–$30 million for the structure. He said a 50% abatement over up to eight years could total roughly $4–$6 million in abated taxes, with the city still receiving the increased taxable value from the investment. "There is a 44 acre parcel located on Northline Road... They're looking to build a 377,000 square foot building, create roughly 300 to 500 jobs, and drive around $20 to $30,000,000 in capital investment," Chris said. Council members pressed staff on how job metrics and contractor preferences would be enforced; Aerotropolis and the mayor's office said those details will be negotiated in a later community benefit agreement and in the industrial facilities exemption certificate stage.
