"We've had a number of shootings, armed robberies that have been solved," the chief said, adding the system does not use facial recognition and is focused on vehicle tracking. Council members asked about long‑term sustainability, replacement costs and whether the contract covers device replacement; the chief said replacements are included and that staff would provide a complete listing of existing cameras and projected ongoing costs.
Council supported the motion after the chief committed to return a comprehensive inventory and an estimate of ongoing operating costs; the contract was approved with no recorded opposition.
