Engineer reports progress on Channelbrook Bridge; estimates 7,500 cubic yards of fill

Jackson County's County Engineer Jaden Shekel told the board that the Channelbrook Bridge project is progressing, with the north pier column poured last week and embankment work under way to shorten the new bridge.
Shekel warned weather could affect the schedule but described the sequencing of sheet piling and cofferdam work for the south pier. On construction logistics he offered a concrete estimate: “Project calls for about 7,500 cubic yards of dirt, which can equate to, you say, roughly at least 700 dump truckloads of dirt.” He also said crews are monitoring nearby 82nd Avenue where haul traffic is concentrated and are placing rock and checking conditions daily.
Board members praised crew work and noted heavier-than-normal traffic in the project area during recent weeks. Shekel said the county is managing the impact with daily inspections and targeted rock placement where embankment hauling has affected surface conditions.
The board did not take a formal vote on the construction update; the presentation was informational and included a notice that some traffic and short-term road wear could be expected while earthwork continues.
