The Maui County Council on Aging voted to approve the January 13, 2026 meeting minutes after Member Heather Ruth‑Durham moved and Member Larry McCarty seconded; the motion passed unanimously (10‑0, 5 absent). Later in the meeting, Member Heather Ruth‑Durham moved and Vice Chair Nani Watanabe seconded a motion to approve transmittal of a draft Council‑size survey; the Council voted unanimously to transmit the survey (9‑0, 6 absent).
Corporation Counsel Chris Nunokawa advised that, under Robert's Rules, the survey must be approved by the Council before distribution. Nunokawa also said an opinion from the Office of Information Practices (OIP) clarified that canceled meetings may still take testimony provided no deliberation occurs and the meeting is officially closed first. He agreed to research whether county code requires specific geographic representation on the Council and report back to the body.
