At the March 24 Asotin City Council meeting at Asotin City Hall, resident Haylie Hallett told the council the smell is still bad at her house and said it is coming from the neighboring property at 501 4th St. "The smell is still bad at my house coming from the neighboring property of 501 4th St., and I have not heard from anyone regarding the complaints made at the last Council meeting," Hallett said during the public-comment period.
Council Member Steve Cowdrey responded, saying it "is not healthy for people to assume that the council members are all friends and going out to dinner or not working on an issue that has been brought forward." Council Member Tim Ottmar said he had notified Chief of Police Renzelman of the complaint but that the chief "was not available during this week as he is out of town for training," and Ottmar added he had observed the property owner using a tractor to clean the area, which temporarily produced odor.
Mayor Pro-Tem Lori Loseth thanked Hallett for following up and described the matter as subject to the council's formal complaint process, saying that the process "does take time." The council did not announce a timeline for a final determination at the meeting; officials said enforcement and a police response had been initiated but that further follow-up was pending.
