Soap Lake mayor resigns during council meeting; executive session continued

Mayor Allen DuPuy told the Soap Lake City Council during its Aug. 7 meeting that he was resigning effective immediately. "I have given 110% to this position, but effective immediately I am resigning," DuPuy said during the meeting, which the council continued the next day to address a related personnel complaint.
The council voted unanimously to continue the meeting to Aug. 8 at 11:00 a.m. at the Senior Center to finish an executive session that had been scheduled to begin at 6:12 p.m. on Aug. 7; that session was extended for a total of 2 hours and 25 minutes and continued to the next morning. When the council resumed the meeting on Aug. 8 it briefly reconvened an executive session from 11:01–11:03 a.m.; no action was taken at that time. Council also scheduled a special meeting for Aug. 13 to consider appointing a temporary city administrator.
The resignation takes place amid several administrative shifts recorded in the meeting — later actions include acceptance of the city attorney's resignation and an interim legal-services contract approved by council. The City removed Allen DuPuy as a Banner Bank signee and added Councilmember John Carlson as a signee during the Aug. 8 session.
