The Saint Clair County Commission voted to accept a Federal Highway Administration Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant to develop a countywide comprehensive safety plan with demonstration projects and to approve the award of engineering services for the grant work.
Clay Phillips, county engineer, explained the award and recommended Sine and Associates to perform engineering services under RFQ 2026-40. Commissioners approved the recommendation and noted the FHWA grant includes demonstration projects that will require plan development and design. The commission recorded the contract amount tied to the FHWA grant as $130,000 for engineering services.
The action authorizes staff to proceed with contracting and the plan-development tasks required by the FHWA agreement. Commissioners thanked project manager Candice Hill for coordinating the grant application and implementation work. The county will post the award and the grant agreement in public files and proceed with scheduling the demonstration project scoping work.
