County proclaims Work Zone Awareness Week and Earth Day; community groups brief board

By voice vote the board adopted a proclamation recognizing National Work Zone Awareness Week (April 20–24) and encouraging motorists to slow down and obey move-over laws. Jeff Deppe of Laborers Local #309 accepted the proclamation and urged motorists to remember that road crews, emergency personnel and public works employees are "someone's father, mother or child" and to slow down for them.
The board also proclaimed April 22 Earth Day in Rock Island County. Dan Breidenstein, vice president with Living Lands & Waters, described the organization's river-cleanup work, said it has removed millions of pounds of shoreline debris across the Mississippi and other rivers, and noted plans for local youth river-career programming and a Beacon Harbor presence.
Both resolutions were unanimous on voice votes, and the board presented proclamations during the meeting.
