Council hears need for resurfacing and upgrades at Friendship Park playground and splash pad

Staff warned that playground surfacing at the nature park has settled in places and needs replacement; depending on paving options, completing both playgrounds could cost between $50,000 and $150,000. John Anscombe explained how bark used near a splash pad proved problematic and recommended a resilient surfacing replacement.
On the splash pad, Anscombe said multiple features are damaged or missing and repairs may require components from a single supplier. "You're gonna have to go to their… it's a sole source because they're the only ones that can mount to that and stay with that," Anscombe said of the splash-pad supplier, adding that some parts were removed previously for safety reasons.
Council members discussed whether parts would be available and the cost tradeoffs of replacing features versus full upgrades; staff offered to gather pricing and return with estimates to inform whether the splash pad and playground resurfacing should be included in GRAMA/RAMP applications or funded locally.
