Council amends fee schedule to add $10 chicken permit, tie ambulance fees to state code

South Fox City Council approved Ordinance 24-10 on Sept. 3, 2024, updating the consolidated fee schedule to add several administrative fees and to align ambulance charges with state law. The ordinance establishes a $10 one-time permit for backyard chickens, a $75 deposit for live-trap rentals, and language to reference Utah code so ambulance fees update automatically.

"So it's being proposed at $10," Mr. Dixon said of the chicken permit, framing the fee as a nominal, cost-recovery charge used to supply code information to residents. Councilmembers debated whether the permit should be a one-time education fee or an annual registration that would help track compliance; several members urged outreach to already-keeping residents to reduce surprise fees.

On ambulance charges, staff recommended referencing state code rather than setting a fixed local number so the city would not have to return each time the state updates allowed fees. After discussion about enforcement and the limited administrative cost basis for local fees, the council moved and approved the ordinance by roll call.
