EDC board renews Placer.ai subscription for retail and tourism data at $6,300

The Balch Springs Industrial and Economic Development Corporation voted to renew a one-year contract for Placer.ai demographic and foot-traffic reporting services not to exceed $6,300.
Chris (staff member S6) told the board the city and the tourism department use Placer.ai to support retail recruitment and to track event visitors. "This is a software on...retail providers and then also provides us reports on targeted retails," Chris said, and noted the tourism department had already contributed $9,500 toward the subscription.
During a remote connection with a Placer representative, Moises (Placer account manager, S10) outlined the product capability: "Our data...understand how much foot traffic this specific location gets...where they live...where else do they shop," and said Placer Intelligence provides quick, human-language summary reports and marketing collateral for outreach.
Board members pressed staff on measurable outcomes and whether the city could see year-over-year metrics tying Placer.ai to recruitment or sales-tax changes. Chris said staff will provide sample retail and tourism reports and include Placer.ai trend data in future board packets so the board can evaluate the contract's value before deciding on a longer-term commitment.
Gwendolyn Gardner (S3) moved to approve the funding; the motion was seconded and the board voted to approve the renewal. Staff said the contract is an annual renewal and the board can consider multi-year pricing in future discussions.
