Assistant law director Pat Ward to leave Amherst to join McCarthy Levitt

Pat Ward, the assistant law director and prosecutor who has advised the Amherst Building and Lands Committee, announced he will leave the city's staff on Friday to accept a position with the Cleveland law firm McCarthy Levitt.
The mayor publicly thanked Ward for his service, saying the staffer had been a "tremendous asset" to the committee and that a replacement would be suggested to the council for its consent. A colleague added personal remarks about Ward's municipal-law background and role guiding the committee through transitions among prior law directors.
In his remarks Ward said serving Amherst had been a career highlight and thanked the mayor, the law director Tony Pacora and department heads for the opportunity. "It has been truly one of the high points of my career as an attorney," Ward said. He told the committee he will be "cheering for the city of Amherst" as he moves to private practice.
Committee members expressed appreciation and noted the administration will propose a nominee to fill the position for council consideration; no formal appointment or vote occurred during the meeting.
