Summary

City Secretary Shauna Atkinson told the Abilene City Council that the official canvass of the May 2 election confirmed Weldon Hurd as mayor and Jay Patterson as the winner of Place 3, both unopposed, and showed no candidate reached a majority for Place 4. "There was no single candidate that had more than 50% of the votes for place 4, so there shall be a runoff for that on June 13 with Benjamin Bailey and Tammy Fogle," Atkinson said.
Atkinson provided administrative dates: she listed early-voting windows, said the last day to register to vote is this Thursday and that the last day for a ballot by mail is June 2. The council moved, seconded and voted to accept the canvass and order the runoff unanimously. No members of the public spoke during the public hearing on the canvass item.
