Board weighs reading city mission, notes 2017 resolution still shows old board name

The Mayor's Advisory Board for People with Disabilities discussed whether to begin future meetings by reading the city council's adopted mission statement or the board's purpose language from the board's creating resolution.
"The city's mission is: 'we work together to build a community of the highest quality for present and future generations,'" Staff member said, reading council-adopted text and noting that the 2017 resolution that established the board still shows the earlier name, "Citizens Advisory Board for People with Disabilities."
Members said displaying the mission or the board’s purpose on the agenda would reinforce the board’s scope and inclusiveness. Staff clarified that the board may use council-adopted mission wording on its agenda but any substantive change to the resolution language or a new board-specific mission would require formal approvals and therefore must be scheduled as an action item.
The board asked staff to place a formal agenda item for the next meeting so members can vote on whether to adopt the practice of reading the mission or purpose at the opening of future meetings. The item was scheduled for next month's agenda for further action and vote.
