MPO reports underspend and carryover funds; staff proposes using carryover for consultant support and staff hires

Staff reported the MPO’s financial status shows it is under budget primarily because of lower staffing costs. The staff member estimated carryover in the range of $300,000–$400,000 and said those funds would be used to hire additional staff and to support consultant RFQs.
"Right now, it looks to be somewhere between about a year, a full year's worth, somewhere between 300,000 and 400,000 in carryover, and that is the funding that I would like to use as, to co do the consultant RFQs," the staff member said. Staff said an admin assistant position will be replaced and that the regional safety action plan and high-injury network designation are ongoing tasks that may require consultant support and software adjustments given the expanded MPO boundary.
Staff asked for patience while carrying out procurement and told the board the safety analysis software cannot yet compare crashes to the rest of the state because of the new MPO boundary; staff will continue working with TxDOT and report back.
